Adria Bernstein, a homeowner in Pinellas County, FL, says she paid nearly $12,000 for hurricane-grade windows and doors that were never delivered or installed.

After months of little communication and no proof the materials were ordered, Bernstein says she risked losing a state grant. When she requested a refund, the contractor allegedly threatened penalties and a lien on her home.

More U.S. homeowners are losing their homes as mortgage payments become harder to keep up with, and some states are being hit much harder than others.

In July, nearly 36,130 properties nationwide faced foreclosure filings, a 13% jump from last year and the largest annual increase so far in 2025, according to real estate data firm ATTOM.

Nevada led the nation, with 1 in every 2,326 homes facing foreclosure, followed by Florida at 1 in every 2,420 housing units.

PAREA Milestones: 38 total graduates, 27 Licensed Residential (LR) credentials earned, 1 Certified Residential (CR) credential earned, and 23 additional participants actively completing their final assignments. Notably, every graduate of the AI PAREA program who has taken the Licensed Residential exam to date has passed, maintaining a 100% pass rate.

I have mentored 4 Certified Residential (CR) candidates, 2 of whom passed on their first try. However, I have stopped mentoring due to several reasons, mainly the expense to myself and the new form coming out. Florida does not allow Licensed Residential (LR), so I am unaware if PAREA is offered in FL. These numbers are national, and honestly, it feels like actual mentorship is the way to go. Why isn't PAREA engaging actual mentors and grouping them together to teach the same or similar program on the Certified Residential side? Mentors need guidance and training. I received an email boasting about PAREA numbers and would love to know what everyone else thinks. Why is PAREA pushing out a Licensed Residential program, which is so limited and not offered in all states?
