South County isn’t one vibe. And that’s exactly the point.

You can say you want to live near the beach, but which version of beach life are you actually looking for?

Snug Harbor if boats, seafood & a working waterfront are your thing.

Bonnet Shores if you want a neighborhood that feels like a community, with the beach built into the lifestyle.

The Pier if you want coffee, restaurants, shops & more walkability.

Eastward Look if you’re after classic, easygoing beach-house energy.

Scarborough if your priority is very simply: THE BEACH.

And Matunuck if you want ocean living with a little more personality, live music, theater & local spots nearby.

This is why I tell buyers, especially people relocating to Rhode Island: don’t start with the house. Start with how you want to live.

Because the right house in the wrong neighborhood is still the wrong house.

Rhode Island is small. That does NOT mean everywhere feels the same.

If you’re relocating here, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is choosing a town before figuring out how you actually want your everyday life to look.

Want a lively Main Street where you can walk to dinner & drinks? East Greenwich might be your place.

Want historic New England charm, independent shops & the waterfront? Look at Wickford.

Want to walk to the beach, grab coffee & actually feel like you live by the ocean? Narragansett Pier.

Want South County access with restaurants, shops & everyday conveniences without living directly in the middle of beach-town chaos? Don’t overlook Wakefield.

Four places. Four very different lifestyles. And because this is Rhode Island, none of them are really that far from each other. 😂

This is why I always tell relocation buyers: don’t start with houses.

Start with the life you want to live. Then we figure out where that life actually exists.

But it lives a whole lot more like a house.

There’s something about an old house that makes you start imagining your life there before you’ve even finished the showing.

Where you’d drink your coffee before everyone else wakes up.

Where you’d spend a Sunday when leaving the house feels completely unnecessary.

The room where you’d pretend to work while staring out the windows.

The kitchen where everyone somehow ends up talking long after dinner is over.

And the backyard where summer would probably last just a little longer.

That’s what I love about 544 Harris Ave. It has the character you want from a 1926 home, but it also has those spaces that make you start picturing what living here could actually look like.

Original details. Beautiful hardwoods. Nearly half an acre. A detached two-car garage. And a house with enough personality that I had a little too much fun imagining the next chapter here.

I’d live here.

Not because it’s perfect. Because it has the kind of character you can’t recreate in a new build.

A house that’s been welcoming people since 1839. Original details. Fireplaces. Rooms that actually feel like rooms. A patio where everyone ends up on summer nights.

And then there’s the location.

Historic Starr Street. The Thames River at the end of the block. Bank Street around the corner. Union Station about a 5-minute walk away.

This is the kind of house where I can immediately picture what living here would actually feel like.

If you’re thinking about moving to Providence, don’t start by scrolling houses.

Start with how you actually want to live.

Because Providence isn’t one thing.

Do you want to walk to coffee and dinner? Historic homes and tree-lined streets? More city energy? A quieter residential neighborhood? Easy highway access? Restaurants and nightlife outside your front door?

The East Side, Fox Point, Federal Hill, the West End, Elmhurst, Mount Pleasant and Downtown are all Providence, but living in each can feel completely different.

And there are some pretty compelling reasons to consider Providence in the first place:

🍝 A food scene that punches WAY above its weight

🚶 Walkable neighborhoods with actual city life

🏡 More real estate for your money compared with Boston or NYC

🌊 And because this is Rhode Island, beaches, coastal towns and everything else are never very far away

Providence isn’t cheap anymore, but for buyers coming from larger Northeast cities, the combination of historic architecture, restaurants, walkability, culture & location can still make it a pretty compelling alternative.

The trick isn’t deciding whether you like Providence.

It’s figuring out which Providence fits your life.
