Need help affording a home? Know someone that does? Some big news for Florida’s frontline workers: the Hometown Heroes Down Payment Assistance program is back starting today with $50 million in fresh funding.

If you work full time for a Florida based employer as a first responder, healthcare worker, teacher or school staff member, child care worker, law enforcement or court employee, or you’re active duty military, reserves, or a veteran, this could help you buy your first home.

Here’s how it works:

• Up to 5% of your mortgage amount toward down payment and closing costs
• Minimum $10,000, maximum $35,000
• 0% interest, no monthly payments on that assistance
• It’s a deferred second mortgage, repaid when you sell, refinance, or move out

Always remember...This program isn’t for everyone, and it’s not free money. It’s a no interest loan that gets repaid down the road, and it only makes sense for certain buyers in certain situations. Sometimes it’s a great fit. Sometimes it isn’t.
