So I have lived in Fl almost 30 years. Some hurricane tips;
Plan ahead. If you only have an electric stove or range prep some items to eat that don’t require electricity. If you have a grill that is a luxury item once the power is out.
Remember clean water may be limited. Fill your bathtubs with water to flush toilets. Fill your water bottles, yeti, or other containers for drinking water.
If you have wash clothes or towels do it now. You can be without clean clothes for days or weeks.
Gas up your car. Make sure you have a phone charger for your car.
Be careful when utilizing candles. If you have battery powered or usb powered electronics, candles, fans, radios charge them now.
Make sure you take pictures/videos of your belongings. Have your insurance information in an accessible place. So you can make a claim quickly.
Make sure your pets have ID collars on at all times in case of separation. Make sure you have theirs and your meds in an accessible place.
Walk you neighborhood and make sure your drains are free of debris.
Be safe during the storm. Power lines can come down and still be live.
If you have a generator be sure you operate it in a well ventilated place, not inside your home or garage.
Bring in any lawn decoration or furniture that could become a projectile.
Tie down anything that you can’t bring in.
If you can get some cash out of the bank. When power is out credit cards do not work.
Have a designated safe room for tornados. Bring pillows/blankets/ water and food.
Buy only what you need, remember others are in the same boat.
