It was one of those incredibly hot summer days.

We had traveled deep into wine country when we stopped for a little break. spotted a pear tree, found some shade underneath it, looked around for a while, cooled off, and eventually started walking again.

Meanwhile, my husband was filming the pear tree.

No posing. No script. I don’t think I even realized he was filming me. Just one of those completely ordinary travel moments that somehow becomes a favorite memory years later.

August is my birthday month, and I’ve been looking through old travel clips and thinking about some of the places and moments I’ve loved most.

I’ve been to 104 countries, not counting territories, so I thought I’d have a little fun with all those memories.

I stepped outside this morning and it was pouring.

I stood there for a moment debating whether to go to the gym or turn around. I knew my workout shoes would be completely soaked before I even got there.

So I grabbed an extra pair of shoes and headed out anyway.

The funny part? This whole situation could have been avoided if I had just bought a pair of rain boots.

Every single year I tell myself, “This is the year.”

Then I spend weeks debating: black, green, red, or yellow? Knee-high, mid-calf, or ankle? And by the time I’ve finished overthinking it… another rainy season arrives.

Today’s downpour reminded me that sometimes the biggest obstacle isn’t the weather. It’s putting off a simple decision for too long.

Standing at the beautiful Elysium Hotel in Paphos, Cyprus, I was reminded of one lesson I’ve seen repeated around the world.
