On Monday night, I signed off for the final time — not just as a KJRH reporter, but as a broadcast journalist.
It was the most painful decision of my life so far. I love telling stories, meeting new people, learning new things, and seeing new places every single day. I thrive on creativity. But ultimately, after months of thought, I felt it was time to change career paths.
I won’t lie — this industry is demanding and has taken a toll on me, and I don’t believe I can stick with it long-term; some people just cut out for it, and I discovered I am one of those people.
I have no regrets about these few years, and I will always remember them fondly. They were foundational for me becoming who I am today.
I will be eternally grateful to those who encouraged me to enter this industry, those who shepherded me through the high and low moments, and those who gave me a chance.
I would be nowhere without the viewers who have warmly welcomed me into their homes — whether through a screen or in person. Thank you for trusting me to handle your stories with care; I hope with every single one I did you all justice.
But I especially want to thank my family, friends, and loved ones for supporting me throughout this entire journey and this difficult decision.
I’ll be returning home to New York and Long Island to study at New York University’s Master’s program in Real Estate Development. But, believe me, Oklahoma and Central Pennsylvania will always be homes for me — all because of you.
With love and thanks,
Your friend and neighbor, Douglas
