The real estate market is hitting a slowdown. Sales are down and homes are taking longer to sell (or not selling at all). But new home buyers hoping for a sharp price drop may be disappointed, at least in Staten Island and New Jersey. Bubble markets in the south and the west are a different story.

The Fed raised policy rates by 0.75% at their July meeting. Despite the expected change, mortgage rates had come down from their June levels. It's expected the Fed will continue moving rates up at each of its three remaining meetings this year, so long as conditions warrant.
