We are about to go into to the last month of the 1st quarter of the new year. Now is the TIME to assess what we’ve done so far and what we want to accomplish going into the 2nd quarter. Making a list of all priorities and personal goals if not done already, is the first step in assessing what to do next. Then we can create small steps towards achieving those goals for the 2nd quarter. That’s how we create opportunities for ourselves. If you want to just talk about real estate opportunities where you live or need help making a relocation decision or want to ask a question for someone you know message me via DM or email: [email protected].

Brownstones are beautiful homes with a distinct style associated with certain areas in NYC, but have you ever wondered how they were made?

Here are a few interesting facts about Brownstones:

1. Brownstone is a soft, close-grained sandstone or freestone. At first it’s pink but over time changes color.

2. True brownstone homes are made with a layer of brownstone a few inches thick attached to brick underneath.

3. You can find brownstones in various areas other than Brooklyn including: The Upper West and Upper East sides and Harlem, historic sections of Long Island City, Queens, and Mott Haven in the Bronx. Across the Hudson River, Hoboken and Jersey City, Philadelphia, Boston and Chicago.

4. A brownstone can be a particular style of townhouse or rowhouse that’s been faced in brownstone — a reddish-brown sandstone popularly used as a building material in the 19th century.

5. In England, rowhouses and townhouses are called “terraced houses,” with a row of wall-sharing homes called a “terrace”. Brownstones were built between 1800 and 1925 and are the dominant building type in NYC historic districts.
