S&P Dow Jones Indices released the July numbers on September 29, 2026. Consumer prices rose about 3.4% over the same year, so home values slipped in real terms for a 14th straight month. The 20-City Composite rose 2.5%, the East kept outpacing the West, and 30-year mortgage rates hovered near or above 7%.

Nationally, there are significantly more sellers than buyers in the market. Sellers outnumbered buyers nationwide by 58% in August - the widest gap since Redfin began tracking the data in 2013.
