So much to be thankful for this year... On October 19th, I had screening mammogram. I was shocked when I got a call two days later asking me to come back in...They saw something that wasn’t there the year before, and it turned out to be cancer.
I was lucky to get a surgery date within 3 weeks. I was scheduled for a lumpectomy and lymph node removal, (for testing), with 4-7 weeks of radiation to follow.
I had one week to get prepared for the surgery and I was gonna kick a$$! 🙌🏼 I had set up carpools, meals, play dates and my angel of a sister-in-law was headed down to stay and help the first few days after surgery. Then, the day before surgery, my genetics results came in. I tested positive for the BRCA2 mutation. I wanted to change gears immediately and switch to a bilateral mastectomy, with reconstruction, but apparently plastic surgeons need more than 24 hours to make that happen. 🤪So, I went ahead with the lumpectomy last week, 11/17, and I’m scheduled for a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction, in January. Good news though, both lymph nodes came back negative for cancer.
It has been one heck of a roller coaster ride the past few weeks. I’ve had some very difficult, dark days, but have been blessed beyond words by friends, family and neighbors. I have been showered with love and support, including flowers, care packages, meals and most importantly, help with my girls. Rides to and from school, play dates and shuttling them around. Text messages, phone calls and visits from friends and family have lifted my spirits and made me feel so incredibly loved. 🥰
Although it has been a difficult journey that isn’t over yet, I’m forever grateful it’s given me the opportunity to experience these blessings. “Breast Cancer”, such a scary thing, but, it certainly has a way of putting everything in perspective. I am so grateful and feel blessed to have such fabulous people on my life. 💕💗💕
And ladies, GO GET YOUR MAMMOGRAM!! It’s really not that bad... 😘
Happy Thanksgiving! 🧡🦃🧡
