Re: Trash and Recycle Pickup
Huntington Residents,
Please see below for updates on the Trash & Recycle Pickup for the community
The last trash/recycle collection by the City of Newport News will be on May 29th for Recycling and May 30th for Trash. PLEASE BE ADVISED, THE CITY HAS ASKED THAT ALL RESIDENTS LEAVE YOUR BINS OUT AS THEY WILL BE COLLECTED BY THE CITY ON FRIDAY MAY 30TH AND INTO SATURDAY MAY 31ST IF NEED BE.
To help reduce confusion, Waste Management will be delivering new bins beginning June 1st and will be completed prior to the first collection on June 5th.
There have been several people inquiring about the Waste Managements Services. Please see the answers below to some questions asked:
Can we have a larger container than the 96 gal provided?
• Unfortunately, this is not an option. Waste Management only offers one size container, which is the 96 gal being provided. If any resident wishes to have a 2nd additional bin delivered and collected weekly, they can request one via the HOA manager and an additional bin will be delivered. PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS A $10 MONTHLY FEE FOR AN ADDITIONAL CONTAINER AND WILL BE PASSED ON DIRECTLY TO THE RESIDENT.
What if I don’t need a recycling bin?
• There is not a feature to “OPT-OUT” of recycling services. If you do not need the service, you are welcome not to place your container out for collection.
How do I set up an online resident account with Waste Management?
• There is no need to set up a WM account UNLESS a resident elects for additional recurring services such as the $10 mo charge for an extra container collection. If this is the case, WM will set up an account for the customer which they can then register for online access.
For any other requests such as to schedule individual bulk collections, check service ETA, report missed pickups, or request bin swaps/repairs, WM handles this entire process using home addresses instead, since this is easier for residents. (I’ve included reference pictures below.)

Good morning Huntington Residents,
UPDATE ON TRASH COLLECTION:
Waste management will begin delivering new cans to residents starting this week continuing through next week to ensure all residents have the new cans for the first Collection service which is starting Thursday, June 5.
The City of Newport News will collect containers following your last pickup in May. They asked that all residents please leave their containers out after the last pick up and they will collect. Residents will receive no violations for cans being left out until they are collected.
Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions!

UPDATE: Solid Waste will continue to pickup in alleyways on a TEMPORARY BASIS until the HOA can put a private refuse contract in place. The city policy is correct in that they cannot pick up in private alleyways for liability reasons, but they will allow us time to get private service put in place. Once private service is in place, this service will keep the trash pickup in alleyways.

Good morning Huntington Residents-
We were advised this morning by your HOA manager that Solid Waste Division of NN has reached out to give notice that all trash/recycling pickup MUST be on the streets. Since the alleys are private property, the City will not pick up due to liability. We expressed the issues this causes to Auckland specifically with the limited access, and unfortunately we received the same response. Please see attached from Solid Waste. Please direct all concerns to the contact listed.

Please be aware, parking is not allowed against the inside median going down Independence Blvd. This is not parking and you are essentially parking your vehicle in the middle of the street. You will not receive a warning or sticker to remove, you are subject to immediate towing without notice.
