I still remember where I was so vividly when the towers went down. I was on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, and we were in the shipyards. I was on the FAF. I didn't know what was happening at the time, but it was a weird vibe in the air. I went to my chief's office, and that's when I saw on the news that the towers went down. The ship was gearing up to send sailors either out to sea or to help with search and rescue at the site. I volunteered for search and rescue, but I was pregnant. That was a bittersweet time. But I will say this: we, as a country, came together and supported one another. This is one of the reasons I am so proud to have served my country. No matter how we felt about one another, when it was time to put in the work, we put that work in together! To the families who lost loved ones that day, I pray for continued healing and peace. To those who are experiencing the physical and mental effects of being on site, I pray for peace and healing.
