Should You Paint Before Listing, and Should You Do It Yourself?
Here is what my years of experience has taught me.
Fresh paint can be one of the simplest ways to make a home feel cleaner, brighter, and better cared for before it goes on the market.
The question is whether the work will look professional.
Buyers notice bad paint. Crooked cut lines, roller marks, missed corners, the wrong sheen, and paint on trim all send the same message: corners were cut.
Fair or not, buyers may start wondering where else that happened.
For small touch-ups, a careful homeowner may be fine.
For main living areas, trim, ceilings, stairwells, dark colors, high walls, or anything highly visible, hire a professional.
Simple rule:
If the paint job will look crisp and invisible, do it. If anyone will notice the painting itself, always hire a pro
