We actually love when you bring family to your home inspection….
Buying a house can be super exciting, and for most it can also be scary. So it’s natural to want your family to see the house you’re buying and to be there for your inspections.
It is your right as a buyer to conduct inspections and is the best way to protect yourself during the home buying process. Even if the house is brand new, we will NEVER recommend you waive inspections.
If you plan to bring family to your home inspection, here are 3 tips to ensure they don’t sabotage the process:
1. Set expectations - your family is going to want what’s best for you and will have their concerns. Prepare them ahead of time; no house is perfect and something is going to come up during your inspection. If and when this happens, we will discuss the solution together…whether that be consulting with another professional to further evaluate the conditions or going in another direction.
2. Make sure they know we are on your side - your inspector is there to go through every detail of the home to find any and all defects possible, and your realtor is going to guide you through negotiations. We want you to be happy with the home you’re buying but also protect your best interest.
3. Remember this home is for YOU - everyone is going to have an opinion, but unless they plan to live with you or help contribute towards your mortgage, the only person that has to live with the conditions of the home is you.
As local professionals, we’ve seen it all. Emotions run deep and it’s hard to think clearly - that’s why you hire agents like us. We’ve talked clients off the ledge towards a simpler solution and we’ve convinced them to walk away from a bad situation.
We love dads…as long as they stay in their lane (respectfully) 🫶🏻
