Parenthesis Photography Unique documentary photography for unconventional couples, small weddings and elopements I figured there were probably a lot of others like me out there.

I'm a wedding photographer and designer living and working in Fairfield County, CT - right outside of NYC. While searching for a photographer for my own wedding, I had a hard time finding someone whose style I related to. That’s why when I started shooting weddings myself, I wanted to incorporate my background in film, fashion, art and travel photography. Those who click with me are usually creati

ve themselves, and are looking for wedding photography that is “different.” More emotional, more candid, and less frilly. Weddings are about your love, your friends and your family, and one amazing day where they are all together at once. It’s a beautiful and artistic part of your life that deserves to be treated as its own mini-documentary.

I wish there were some other way other than saying “9 out of ten of my couples say the same thing” to reassure people that feeling awkward in front of the camera is completely normal. While the technical and artistic aspects of photography are obviously really important when looking for a wedding photographer, the ability to direct, empathize and read body language are equally if not more important skills to look for. I’ve really honed my approach to photographing portraits so that they have variety and movement, but still reflect the couple truthfully. It’s the biggest thing I do for my couples, because I believe that capturing you in the most honest way possible is the most respectful thing I can do.

Just sent out my last wedding gallery of 2024 to and _crow ! It has been a challenging, but really amazing year. I’ve never felt so connected with so many people or as creatively fulfilled as I have in 2024, despite many hurdles. I enjoyed all of the weddings and shoots I did and am so thankful for my couples. I really don’t know how I got so lucky to have couples that are not just clients, but friends. The trust you have in me means much more than you know. There were many firsts for me this year including a cemetery shoot, a bird sanctuary wedding (!) and a Muslim wedding. One thing I can say about this job is that it constantly challenges me to be a better artist and business . My couples inspire me to be a better person every single year. Thank you to my 2024 couples, and I’m really looking forward to 2025!

Some beautifully intricate henna from a Muslim wedding I got to shoot this fall (my first!). I’ve photographed many different types of religious and spiritual ceremonies and always make sure to find out beforehand if there are any certain rituals or customs I need to be aware of. I feel very honored whenever someone trusts me to capture something that is new to me. Honestly I just approach each wedding with respect and curiosity and that seems to carry across any kind of celebration.

There’s just something about family sessions on film. I am part of the generation whose childhood photos were still captured on film… all the way until I was a teenager. We 90s kids were really the last ones who still went to cvs regularly to develop our photos, but also who probably received a digital point and shoot when we were in high school or college. I wonder if later generations feel the same pull to film or not?

Early in my career a fellow photog gave the advice to not share so many b+w photos. I got paranoid after that and tried not to but realized how much it’s really a part of my work. I learned photography on b+w film in the darkroom, like many photographers. And tons of my couples specifically say they love the timelessness of b+w. Of course I deliver lots of color photos too. Anyway, what works for one photog won’t work for another and it took me a while to find my confidence in my style and take advice with a grain of salt!
