Have a Realtor ask you to sign a Buyer Broker Agreement before touring homes? Don’t panic—it’s completely normal.
As of August 2024, buyers are required to sign a written Buyer Broker Agreement before touring homes with a real estate agent. This industry-wide change was designed to create more transparency so you know exactly who represents you, what services you’re receiving, and how your agent is compensated.
So what does a Buyer Broker Agreement actually do?
• Establishes that I’m representing you as your buyer’s agent.
• Outlines the services I’ll provide throughout your home search, negotiations, and closing process.
• Explains how my compensation works, so there are no surprises later.
• Creates a clear understanding of our working relationship from day one.
One of the biggest misconceptions is that signing this agreement means you’re committing to buy a specific home. That’s not the case.
The agreement simply allows me to legally represent you while showing homes, advocating for your best interests, and guiding you through every step of the buying process.
