Over in Martin County, FL - some surveyors found more than they bargained for.
"Deputies received reports that the land surveyors found the bones of an unidentified person near the Emerald Lakes Homes community, near Stuart, FL around 1:40 p.m Monday afternoon."

A land survey crew found human bones near Southeast Lillian Court and U.S. 1 south of Stuart Monday, said Chief Deputy John Budensiek

Safety is a huge part of why FGS does not operate one-man crews when avoidable. Although in the following instance, that may have just resulted in two maulings:

Allen Minish was alone and surveying land for a real estate agent in a wooded, remote part of Alaska, putting some numbers into his GPS unit when he was attacked by a bear.

Interesting piece by an ex-surveyor in Hawaii.
"The distance between two points a mile apart can change a foot in a year. In the old days, the landmark ruled and measurements were to confirm, or help find it. Even then landmarks can be lost. In 1785, on the prairie with no landmarks a corner could be marked by burying a quart of charcoal. Imagine finding that a hundred years later."

We have controversies in Kona when a house seems to be too close to the property line. Once upon a time, I was a surveyor, everything from the location of a dog house to a big piece of land you may have heard of called it’s called Arizona. We helped make Google Earth possible.
