And as a added bit of information please make sure you have your homeowners and flood insurance ( two separate things) up to date BEFORE a storm enters the gulf’s Hurricane Box- why:

Here is a picture of the "Hurricane Box" which designates when many insurance companies can no longer "bind" homeowner's polices.

Binding suspension rule: NO application for new coverage or endorsement for increased coverage may be bound, written or issued, or monies received, regardless of effective date, when a "named" tropical storm or hurricane is located within the designated "boundary box" issued by the insurance carrier.

Carriers may lift the moratorium when imminent danger of a direct strike has passed, such as making landfall or when weather system no longer poses a threat.

Homebuyers may want to check with their insurer as the tropical weather approaches to determine whether insurance company will bind insurance.
