For this mother and daughter’s closets, the priority was functionality. We created simple, easy-to-follow systems using what they already had (and a few essentials) so the space would feel manageable and, most importantly, maintainable long-term.

The best system is the one that works for you—and that you’ll actually keep up with.

Authenticity beats perfection every time.

Your time and energy are precious. Spend them wisely.

Starting over isn’t failure. Sometimes it’s where the best parts begin.

Success looks different in every season of life.

Getting older is a privilege—and I’m learning to treat it that way

And maybe my favorite lesson of all: There is so much freedom in letting go of what no longer serves you.

Funny enough, I’ve learned that one in both life and organizing. 😉

Today I’m just feeling incredibly grateful—for another year, for the people I love, for the work I get to do, and for all the life I still have left to live.

Here’s to another year of less perfection, more presence, taking chances, laughing a lot, and making room for what matters most. 🤍

One of the biggest differences you’ll notice in almost every closet I organize?

There’s space left over.

An empty hanger.
A shelf that isn’t packed.

That’s intentional.

I don’t organize to maximize storage—I organize to maximize function. Because when every inch is crammed full, there’s nowhere for life to go. New purchases, changing seasons, growing families, and everyday living all need room to exist.

The editing process is often the hardest part of organizing, but it’s also the most important. It’s what creates systems that don’t just look beautiful on day one—they continue working long after I’ve left.

A little empty space today is what keeps your home from becoming overwhelmed tomorrow.

The goal was never to fill the closet.

You know what I’ve learned after years of organizing homes?

People rarely call me because they want prettier bins.

They call because they’re exhausted.

Because they’re tired of opening a cabinet and feeling overwhelmed.
Tired of buying duplicates because they can’t find what they already own.
Tired of spending every morning looking for shoes, permission slips, water bottles, or the charger that “was just here.”
Tired of feeling like they’re constantly behind in their own home.

And underneath all of that…

There’s guilt.

“Why can’t I keep up?”

One of my favorite organizing principles is making it easy to do the right thing while protecting the things that need a little supervision.

In this loft book and craft closet, everything has a designated home:

Books are organized by size and category for easy browsing.
Games, puzzles, and activities are labeled so kids can find what they want—and put it away independently.
Paper, coloring books, and everyday supplies are within reach to encourage creativity.

But here’s the intentional part…

Paint, glue, markers, and other messy craft supplies are stored on the top shelf, safely out of reach. This gives Mom complete control over when those materials come out, preventing unnecessary messes while still making creative time fun and intentional.

A well-designed organizing system isn’t just about looking beautiful—it’s about supporting your family’s routines, encouraging independence, and setting everyone up for success.

When every item has a home, cleanup becomes easier, children gain confidence by knowing where things belong, and parents spend less time searching and more time enjoying the space.

Functional organization creates freedom.
