So, I was in the middle of a repair negotiation today for a deal in Brookhaven, and somehow being up to my neck in repair details reminded me of something I probably don’t mention often enough: The name “Maven Real Estate.”
And before you decide this post is boring and scroll on, understand this: Maven is not just a catchy name. Maven is a standard.
As many of you know, I founded our company back in 2015 along with my business partner Aaron. In trying to form our identity as agents and what kinds of standards we wanted to hold ourselves and our agents to, the name Maven has always really stuck out to us.
Maven comes from a Hebrew word which means “one who understands.” Saying, “I’m a Maven!” can easily sound like a brag: “Look at me, I’m a smart guy!”
But I take being a Maven as my duty. That shows up in two ways:
First, I believe it is my duty to have a deep knowledge of what I am doing in representing my clients. That means understanding in depth market analysis, having a thorough understanding of the systems of a house, and understanding all the financial aspects of mortgages and the transaction for my clients.
Second, I believe it is my duty to have a strong ability to communicate in order to represent my clients well. That means understanding my clients’ needs by listening carefully, negotiating effectively by understanding other agents’ and their clients’ viewpoint in often tense and even angry situations, and bringing understanding for my clients by translating complex subjects that affect their situation into simple terms.
It’s not that I’m always perfect or feel like I have perfectly met the bar. But every day I wake up and I believe I must strive to uphold that standard. It bleeds out of everything I do, not because I am a superhuman or anything, but because that is the standard I hold myself to. Knowledge and communication. It is what it means to be a Maven.
Being a Maven isn’t efficient. It takes more time. It takes a lot more effort. But I believe that it is the only way to treat my clients the way I want to be treated. And so, that’s why I’m so committed to being a Maven with every client, in every situation, every time.
I am a Maven, not as a matter of pride, but as a matter of my duty to you. And I am honored by all of you who have trusted me to serve you over the years! Looking forward to many more!
