As the oldest son of an affluent businessman and a successful psychologist, he seemed to have a good life already laid out for him: traveling the world in his youth, with a job in his father’s company as he settled down to start a family. But something told Gustavo that this wasn’t the right path for his life- that there was another out there, just waiting for him if only he would take that step t
o leave his comfort zone for the unknown. All roads lead to Miami
While the decision to leave Argentina had not been an easy one, the decision on where to go afterwards proved easier than expected. Even though Gustavo had traveled the world and enjoyed larger cities like London, Paris, and New York- it was Miami that he chose.
“Above all else, I wanted to know that my wife and my children would be happy- and truthfully, their happiness was my only concern.”
Marina’s family had moved to Miami just a few years prior, and knowing that Marina and their children would need a strong support system in their new home, Gustavo knew that Miami was a natural choice. In the summer of 1995, the Blachmans moved into a small apartment in what was then a relatively unknown section of Miami- Aventura. And while they’ve since moved several times to accommodate two new family members- Nicholas and Mia Valentina- the Blachmans still call Aventura home to this day. When asked if he would ever move anywhere else, Gustavo simply smiles, “The answer is an absolute no. I love where I live- I found peace, I found happiness, I found a home for my family, and in the process I also found myself.”
Guiding others down their path
The self Gustavo found is the one that gets him up early every morning and keeps him working well past all the employees in his office- namely, that he wants to help others find their place with the same success that he had. It is this spirit that led him to become a real estate associate, and later to open his own real estate company, Terrabella.
“Any number of careers would have provided me with the income I needed to support my family, but with real estate I can be in a position where my knowledge, experience, and talent come together to do something worthwhile in people’s lives.”
It’s this unique outlook that has led Gustavo in each and every business decision he’s made: that working in real estate isn’t about being a good salesman; it’s about aiding people in any way you can, with what is quite possibly the most important decision of their lifetime.
“When you establish a relationship where a person is putting all their trust in you, as in real estate- I believe you should be able to meet their eye when the deal is done. I believe that as long as you remember who you work for- and that their goals have to be your goals- you will always succeed.”
