๐ง๏ธ Weekend Weather Alert: Heavy Rain & King Tides
With Hurricane Isaias expected to make landfall along the northeastern Gulf Coast tonight, October 9, the City of North Myrtle Beach is expected to experience periods of heavy rain and rough coastal conditions this weekend.
Our primary local concern is the potential for localized flooding from heavy rainfall combined with King Tides.
Current forecasts indicate the following local impacts:
๐ง Heavy Rainfall: Approximately 3โ4 inches of rain are expected Saturday through Sunday, with locally higher amounts possible. The heaviest rainfall is expected mainly Saturday into Sunday. Localized flash flooding is possible where the heaviest rain falls.
โ King Tides and Coastal Flooding: King Tides may bring minor tidal flooding during high tide cycles. Saturday morning is anticipated to have the highest tide of the weekend. Heavy rainfall may also contribute to flooding in low-lying areas throughout the City.
๐ Coastal Conditions: Marine and surf conditions are expected to become hazardous beginning this evening, with a high risk of rip currents this weekend.
โกThunderstorms: A small threat for severe weather includes a low risk for tornadoes. Residents and visitors are encouraged to have a way to receive emergency weather alerts.
Residents and visitors should monitor forecasts from trusted local weather sources and allow extra travel time during heavy rain. Those in low-lying coastal areas should remain aware of high tide cycles and secure garbage cans and other loose outdoor items.
Motorists should avoid driving through flooded roads or around barricades. If a road is flooded, choose another route. Vehicle wakes can push water into nearby homes and properties.
The City will continue to monitor conditions and share updates as needed.
