DID YOU KNOW!?

Did you know, St. Patrick was born in Britain originally? He was captured at 16 during a raid of Irish pirates and taken to Ireland, where he worked as a shepherd for 6 years under their captivity. Many years later, he became a Priest and introduced Christianity to Ireland. He died on March 17th, 461 in his 70's. Through the years, this day has been celebrated by many around the world! The United States being the first recorded to host a St. Patrick's Day celebration/parade in 1600, later to become an official Irish holiday in 1903. Chicago celebrates by dyeing the Chicago River green every year! Dublin hosts an elaborate 5-day celebration in honor of St. Patrick.

Did you know?

The first ever Thanksgiving was a 3-day feast in November 1621, there was appoximately 140 people in attendance, imagine having to cook Thanksgiving dinner for that crowd! Thanksgiving wouldn't be recognized as a national holiday until 1863, when Abraham Lincoln declared that the last Thursday in November would officially be recognized as the national holiday we all love today.

Shortly after Thanksgiving was declared a holiday, football quickly became a key part of the festivities with the tradition begininng in 1876 when Yale and Princeton played against each other on Thanksgiving day. Outdoor activities have been a key aspect of Thanksgiving for a very long time, with the first Turkey Trot being held all the way back in 1896 with only 6 participants!

Thanksgiving celebrations are nothing short of grand, the first Macy's Thankgiving Day Parade to air on TV was in 1948 and since then it has been a tradition to tune in every year for many families! The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade typically uses over 300 pounds of glitter during the parade, that does not sound like a fun time to clean up!
Everybody knows pumpkin pie is a staple of Thanksgiving, but did you know there are on average 5,000 seeds in each pumpkin? Try roasting some pumpkin seeds this year with all those extra seeds!
