⚠️ Attention Fellow Realtors & the Public ⚠️

We're seeing a very concerning scam that we've now encountered TWICE, and it's putting homeowners, buyers, renters, and agents at risk.

Scammers are taking homes that are listed for sale and advertising them on TikTok, Facebook, and other sites as rental properties. They often contact Realtors from different counties, claiming to have cash or even sending what appear to be legitimate pre-approval letters to gain trust and request a showing.

Once the showing is approved, the "client" (who is actually the scammer) will often call the agent back and say something like, "My schedule is up in the air. Since the home is vacant, can you just give me the lockbox code?"

🚫 DO NOT GIVE OUT LOCKBOX CODES. EVER.

The scammer then sends unsuspecting people to the home alone, collects a fake security deposit through a fraudulent link, and disappears with their money. 💸

😔 We recently arrived at one of our homes that was already under contract to find people trying to move in because they truly believed they had rented the property. Even worse, they later returned and stole appliances from the home.

🔑 Realtors: Please use your best due diligence. Never share lockbox combinations or access codes. Those codes are there to protect our clients, their homes, and our profession.

🏠 To the public: If you find a home online that is advertised for rent, please contact a trusted local Realtor to verify that the listing is legitimate before sending any money or deposits. A simple phone call could save you thousands of dollars and protect you from becoming a victim.
