This month, NAR released its 2026 Buyers and Sellers Generational Trends report. Baby Boomers are still leading the market, making up 42% of all home buyers, while Millennials (26%) and Gen X (25%) remain close behind. Meanwhile, first-time buyers dropped to just 21%—the lowest level on record.

While Millennials lost market share overall, Older Millennials had the highest median household income of any generation at $132,700 and purchased the largest homes with a median of 2,100 square feet.

The takeaway? Today’s market isn’t fueled by newcomers. It’s powered by experienced, repeat buyers who know what they want.
