I’ve been doing this long enough to know that people rarely remember every house you showed them or every detail of the transaction but they remember how much you cared about getting them where they wanted to go.

Real estate has changed a lot over the years but I don’t think that part ever should. Some of the people I helped buy homes decades ago are still part of my life today and when they remind me of stories like this I’m reminded why I’ve loved doing this for as long as I have.

When I started in real estate, we didn’t have social media and I still believe in picking up the phone, staying in touch with your clients and doing the things that have always built a good real estate business.

But I also can’t deny the advantage agents have today. One video, podcast or post can put you in front of hundreds or thousands of people and give them an opportunity to get to know you before you ever speak.

After almost four decades in this business I think the best agents will do both.

As a buyer understanding the contingency removal process is important because it is the point in the transaction in which your deposit could be at jeopardy if moving forward without fully understanding What happens next.

After nearly 40 years in this business, I am grateful that we have never lost the buyers deposit, but I have heard horror stories.

I failed my real estate exam twice and at the time, I’m sure I didn’t see those failures as part of the plan. But nearly 40 years later, I can look back and see God’s hand in all of it.

This career has given me more than I ever could have imagined. It has allowed me to serve thousands of families, build a life for my own family and wake up all these years later still finding joy and purpose in the work I get to do.

God has a plan for all of us and sometimes even the failures are part of it. I’m very grateful His plan included a third try.

Maybe the real flex isn’t being able to afford more but It’s knowing when you already have enough.

We spend so much of our lives assuming the next house, the nicer car or the bigger number will somehow make us happier. There’s something fascinating about a man who could afford virtually anything deciding that the home he already has is enough.

As a real estate agent, I’m probably not supposed to say this, but I think there’s a lesson in that.

Early in my career, I went to a Century 21 conference and watched agents get recognized for becoming Centurions.

I remember looking at my broker and asking, “How do I become that?”

I’ve never forgotten what that room did for me because it didn’t teach me to want more. It showed me that more was possible.

That’s why even after all these years in real estate, I still believe in conferences, community and surrounding yourself with people who expand the way you think.

It’s one of the reasons I’m looking forward to being in New York INMAN • Community at the beginning of the year.

Sometimes you don’t need a new goal, you just need to see what’s possible.

I’ve come to learn that God does not do anything to us, he only does things for us

I don’t often think about how I immigrated to this country but when I look back at my journey, I am so grateful for every obstacle and struggle that I overcame.

It’s easy to feel like the world is out to get you when you are standing in the fire, but in hindsight, the fire is who helped me become the believer, the mother, and the business owner. I am today who I am truly proud of.

To all of my colleagues who have recently immigrated or anyone who is going through a particularly challenging time, trust that you are being developed into the person you are destined to become.
