Today, we remember Welles Remy Crowther, raised in Upper Nyack, whose extraordinary courage on September 11, 2001, continues to inspire.

Inside the South Tower of the World Trade Center, Welles repeatedly returned to help others, leading survivors to safety before sacrificing his own life. Remembered as “The Man in the Red Bandana,” he left a lasting legacy of bravery, compassion, and selfless service.

We honor Welles, his remarkable heroism, and his enduring connection to our Nyack community.
