🏡 BIG NEWS for Housing in America… and it could have a real impact right here in the St. Louis region.
At midnight this morning, The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act has officially become law—the most significant bipartisan housing legislation in decades. 🇺🇸
So, what does it actually mean?
✅ Encourages communities to build more homes, helping increase supply.
✅ Creates incentives to speed up local permitting and reduce unnecessary red tape.
✅ Expands opportunities for starter homes, duplexes, townhomes, ADUs, and manufactured housing.
✅ Makes it easier to finance smaller-dollar mortgages, opening doors for more first-time homebuyers.
✅ Helps convert vacant commercial buildings into housing, breathing new life into underutilized properties.
✅ Encourages local governments to modernize zoning and land-use policies while maintaining local control. (Bipartisan Policy Center)
Why should St. Louis care?
Like many communities across our region, we continue to face a shortage of affordable homes. As inventory increases and communities embrace smart development, buyers should have more choices, builders may have more opportunities, and housing affordability could gradually improve over time.
This isn’t an overnight fix. But it’s a meaningful step toward addressing one of the biggest challenges facing families, young professionals, seniors, and first-time homebuyers today.
As a REALTOR® and someone who is passionate about housing opportunities in our community, I’m encouraged to see leaders from both parties come together on an issue that affects every American.
Here’s hoping this is just the beginning of making the dream of homeownership more attainable for the next generation.
🏠 More homes.
🏠 More opportunity.
🏠 Stronger communities.
