American Society of Home Inspectors Founded in 1976 and with more than 5,000 members, ASHI is the most widely recognized non-profit, professional organization of home inspectors in North America.

In 1976, a group of visionary home inspectors with the common goal of building consumer awareness and enhancing the professionalism of their field established the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI). This not-for-profit professional association for home inspectors made its first order of business to establish and advocate high standards of practice and a strict code of ethics for the member

community. The Mission of ASHI is to meet the needs of its membership and promote excellence and exemplary practice within the profession. ASHI is the most respected professional association for home inspectors in North America. Through ASHI’s continued efforts, ASHI's Standards of Practice—covering all of a home's major systems—are now part of many pieces of state legislation and are recognized by consumers as the authoritative standard for professional home inspection. The Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors is an independent not-for-profit organization, incorporated in the State of Illinois and tax-exempt under IRS guideline 501c(6).

It serves the public interest by establishing the standard of competence for the home inspection profession. EBPHI governs and administers the National Home Inspector Examination® specifically to support the regulatory needs of states in identifying the required level of competence to conduct a quality home inspection.

The Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors® supports the home inspection profession by providing credible and independent proficiency examinations and resources.
