I want to share an important update: for the past year, Zillow.com has been attempting to take that control away from sellers. Their actions recently prompted our local Multiple Listing Service (MLS), Midwest Real Estate Data (MRED), to remove their access to all Chicagoland listing data. This means thousands of Chicago-area listings are no longer on Zillow.com.

I want to explain why this happened, why Coldwell Banker Realty and I support this decision, and how this is actually a positive for you as a seller.

What Happened?
Last year, Zillow.com attempted to force sellers onto their platform by introducing a policy that would ban any listing marketed off Zillow for more than one day. This policy directly targets pre-marketing strategies that allow sellers to gather valuable insights and build demand before a listing goes live. However, independent research and MRED's own studies show that homes pre-marketed off Zillow actually sell for more money, in a shorter amount of time, at a higher percentage of asking price.

We pause to honor the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their bravery will never be forgotten. Home sellers and their agents, not a tech company, should decide how their home is marketed. And we will not support a platform that gives our clients ultimatums instead of choices.

Zillow.com also redirects buyer inquiries away from me, the agent with the most knowledge of your home, and sells those leads to agents who may know nothing about your home or neighborhood. The reality is most sellers don’t gain anything by being on Zillow.com.

90% of homebuyers work with an agent, and agents access listings through the MLS and professional networks - not Zillow.com

97% of real estate transactions don’t involve Zillow.com

To the hearts that make a house a home: Happy Mother's Day! We celebrate all the mothers and maternal figures who fill our lives with love, comfort, and wisdom. What I wouldn't give for one more day my mother, smelling her cooking as the delicious flavors fill the air. As a mother and grandmother, I'm grateful for every day I get to spend with my daughters and grandchildren.
