My kids have officially claimed this as their new favorite spot, and honestly, I get it ... arcade games, tickets, prizes, and enough options to keep them entertained (while I actually get to sit and sip my coffee 😅). Battle of the Chocolate Italian Ice: Mario's vs. Carm's. Little Italy edition!

Two neighborhood legends, one very important decision: which one's chocolate Italian ice actually wins? I put both to the test and it got competitive fast. Mario's has been a Little Italy staple since 1954, and Carm's has been slinging beef and Italian ice since 1929, you really can't go wrong either way. But I had to pick a side.

When moms ask me about the best family day-trip spots in Little Italy, I always send them straight to Polk Street. On one side, Fontano's has been serving up Chicago's best subs since 1960, my go-to for a classic Italian sub. Right across the street, Carm's has the beef and burgers that win over even the pickiest kiddos. Best of both worlds, one block, zero arguments over where to eat. That's a win in my book.

This is exactly the kind of neighborhood charm that makes Little Italy such a special place to call home, walkable, full of history, and family favorites on every corner.

Real summer day in my life: mom + realtor + wife (the "wife" part got cut for time).

7am: Unloading the kids from the car after a morning summer activity
9am: Target run for back-to-school supplies, yes already
11am: Squeezing in one more summer memory before it's gone
1pm: On the phone with our lender, driving to a showing
2pm: Showing a home I already know is "the one"
4pm: Finally sitting down to eat, basically dinner time at this point
6pm: Quick stop at one of our favorite community spots to end the day

Summer with kids and a full real estate calendar is chaos, but the good kind.

When moms ask me what makes a neighborhood family-friendly, this is exactly the kind of spot I point them to. The Garfield Park Conservatory just reopened its Kids Play Area, and if your family hasn't been yet, it's worth the trip. Lots of greenspace, beautiful gardens, and a play space made for little explorers to run wild while you get a few minutes to breathe.

Okay but why does grocery shopping suddenly feel like a world adventure. 🌍🍬

Exotic Snack Guys packs snacks and drinks from 40+ countries into one Logan Square shop, and it has genuinely gone viral for a reason ... walk in for "just a quick look" and walk out 20 minutes later with a bag full of mystery squishies and zero regrets.

This is the kind of spot that makes a neighborhood fun to actually live in, not just look good on a listing sheet. 🏡

Some of the best food in Chicago is coming out of a bright yellow shipping container. 🌮

Omarcito's sits right where Logan Square meets Hermosa, and Chef Omar Cadena has built something special there — from jibaritos, ropa vieja, and a Cuban coffee that'll wake you up faster than your alarm. The restaurant carries his grandfather's name, a nod to a family that's been rooted in this part of the city for generations. That kind of history is exactly what I look for when I'm scouting a block for buyers. This stretch of Fullerton doesn't get talked about as much as some of its neighbors, but spots like this are proof it should.
