If you’re thinking about retirement, saving for a home and under 30 you should read this.

Retirement should be your first priority before saving for a down payment. Start up a 401(k) if you haven’t already. Once you get a nice chunk of change built up switch your savings plan to a down payment plan - or run retirement plan and saving for a down payment plan simultaneously with the same contribution amount but split it. You can do this any way you feel comfortable - the plan must support your lifestyle!

This is a very simple way of looking at it, but it should be this simple. This article isn’t considering a couple of key factors that are postponing a lot of millennials from buying - student loan debt, tight credit standards, higher rents causing a difficulty to save for a down payment etc. All of this can be overcome if you have a plan and get creative.

Also I want to add there’s nothing wrong with renting UNTIL you are ready to buy, and getting your profile to an advantageous place to support it.

With this said real estate is still undeniably the best way to build wealth, and as this guy said you do it by just “living”
