Just got back from an amazing Modernism Week in Palm Springs!
There is truly nothing like Modernism Week in Palm Springs — a city that has become synonymous with mid-century modern architecture and style…clean lines, post-and-beam construction, walls of glass, and seamless indoor-outdoor living.
One of the highlights was touring this beautifully reimagined mid-century home — the Soleil House — owned by Trina Turk. Trina Turk is a celebrated American fashion designer known for her bold prints, vibrant colors, and distinctly California aesthetic. Her brand has long embodied a modern, optimistic take on resort living, and this home feels like a natural extension of that vision.
The house perfectly captures what makes desert modernism so iconic: strong architectural lines, incredible natural light, thoughtful preservation of original character, and contemporary updates that respect the integrity of the design. The connection between interior space and the surrounding landscape is effortless…exactly what these homes were designed to celebrate.
Palm Springs rose to prominence in the 1950s and 60s as architects like Richard Neutra, Albert Frey, and William Krisel helped define an architectural movement that still influences design today. Modernism Week keeps that legacy alive, opening the doors to private homes and reminding us why great architecture matters.
Experiences like this always inspire me — whether it’s helping clients appreciate design history or finding a home that reflects their own aesthetic. If mid-century modern speaks to you, let’s talk.
