Nobody warns you that your relationship with your home might change when your kids leave.

For years, so many of our decisions about home revolve around them. Bedrooms. Schools. Yard. Where everyone gathers. Enough space for friends, holidays, all the stuff that comes with raising a family.

And then one day, the house is still here, but the life happening inside it is completely different.

That doesn’t automatically mean it’s time to downsize. It doesn’t mean you should sell the family home or that something is wrong if you want to stay.

But I think we’re allowed to ask whether the home we chose for that chapter still supports the life we want now.

I’m living this chapter too. And maybe that’s why I keep coming back to this idea that sometimes it’s not the house we’re struggling to let go of. It’s the version of our lives that happened inside it.

And I think we should feel perfectly ok saying that out loud💙

Grateful doesn’t quite cover it.

When Chelsea sent Joe my way, she handed me one of the best parts of this job: the chance to help someone she cares about.

Buying your first home is a big enough leap on its own.

Joe was doing it from across the country, with a VA loan on a historical home, without being able to walk through it himself. His first showing happened over FaceTime.

We hit some inspection issues along the way. I handled the details so he could focus on the move, not the logistics.

Getting to be trusted with something this personal, from that far away, still means everything to me.

Grateful for Joe, grateful for Chelsea, and so happy to welcome him to the Eastern Shore.

I think we’re leaving the era of buying the biggest house you can afford, and honestly, it’s about time.

For years the goal was more space, more rooms, bigger everything.

But I’m seeing something shift, here on the Eastern shore at least…

People are waking up to the fact that a big house you rattle around in isn’t a prize, it’s a second job.

I believe a home should fit the life you actually live, not eat up all your money and time keeping it running.

The real win is what people are getting back going smaller and not maxing out their budget -

More money and more time, so you can live the life you truly want, instead of feeling held captive by your house.

I see this a lot when people are making big decisions around home ownership (and in life in general!)

It looks like “overthinking.”

But most of the time, it’s actually questioning what we already know inside.

Second guessing what we noticed.

Talking ourselves out of what felt off.

Looking for something external to confirm what we already felt.

The clarity is usually there early.

It just gets quieter the more it’s questioned.
