This week, the Maryland State Police conducted a statewide safety initiative reminding motorists about Maryland’s 'Move Over' Law, which protects first responders, road crews, tow truck operators and motorists.

The law applies to any stopped, standing or parked vehicle displaying emergency signals, including hazard warning lights, road flares and other caution signals such as traffic cones or non-vehicular warning signs.

Troopers issued over 400 warnings and citations as part of this recent traffic enforcement initiative, aimed at enhancing road safety across Maryland. Violating the 'Move Over' Law carries a $110 fine and one point on your license. If the violation causes a crash, then the fine is $150 and three points. When there is a death or serious injury involved, the fine is $750 and three points.
