Good news……..

TROPICAL UPDATE
1 PM SATURDAY 9/19/2026

BOTTOM LINE: This is not a threat to the United States or any other land areas.

The disturbance in the far eastern Atlantic has developed a well-defined center with winds of 35 mph and is now Tropical Depression Six.

Conditions could become slightly more favorable for development, allowing the depression to strengthen into Tropical Storm Fay tonight or tomorrow. After Sunday, however, wind shear will increase dramatically, causing the system to weaken before it is eventually absorbed by a cold front early next week.

The depression is currently drifting toward the Azores, but it is not expected to get close enough to have any impact there. High pressure will eventually steer it back toward the southwest, keeping it safely over the open Atlantic.

Elsewhere, the tropics remain quiet!

Keeping an eye on the tropics…….

TROPICAL UPDATE
10 AM SUNDAY 8.30.2026

BOTTOM LINE: I'm keeping an eye on the remnants of Dolly, but right now there are no tropical threats to the Carolinas over the next 7–10 days.

There are only two disturbances worth tracking across the Atlantic Basin, and both have a low chance of actually becoming tropical systems. Here’s a quick breakdown of each:

REMNANTS OF DOLLY - Thanks to strong wind shear, what’s left of Dolly no longer has a well-defined circulation, so it’s not a tropical storm anymore. It is, however, sending a welcome surge of tropical moisture across the drought-stricken northeastern Caribbean Islands and Puerto Rico.

High pressure building north of the system should steer the remnants over the Great Antilles or through the southern Bahamas and eventually into the southeastern Gulf later this week. Wind shear may relax somewhat along its path next week, but the chances of Dolly regenerating into a tropical depression or storm remain low. If it does manage a comeback, the Gulf would be the most likely place for it to happen.

GULF LOW PRESSURE - An area of low pressure about 125 miles south of the Louisiana coast is producing more concentrated showers and thunderstorms, but surface observations indicate the system hasn’t strengthened yet. Some slow development is possible over the next couple of days as it drifts toward the Louisiana and Texas coasts. Models bring the system ashore within about 2–3 days, which should put an end to any opportunity for tropical development.

And here’s the part I really like...

We’re now just 11 days away from the climatological peak of hurricane season on September 10, and there are no imminent tropical concerns anywhere!
