π¨ IMPORTANT FLOODPLAIN UPDATE β from the JACKSON COUNTY (MISSISSIPPI) PLANNING DEPARTMENT π¨
Jackson County has now adopted a 1-foot freeboard requirement in all Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs).
π What does this mean?
The newly adopted 1-foot freeboard requirement is in addition to the current elevation requirements already applicable to properties located within Special Flood Hazard Areas.
This means that applicable structures must be elevated an additional one (1) foot above the required elevation.
π If you are planning to build, elevate, remodel, or develop property within a Special Flood Hazard Area, this new requirement may affect your project, plans, permitting, and construction costs.
π Before beginning your project, please contact Jackson County's floodplain official to confirm the elevation requirements that apply to your property @ 228-769-3114.
Our goal is to help ensure that development throughout Jackson County is safer, more resilient, and compliant with current floodplain regulations.
