If this is your primary residence, filing for the Mississippi homestead exemption can lower the taxable value of your home and help reduce your property taxes.

A few quick things to know:
• It’s not automatic & you have to apply
• You file through your county tax assessor
• It’s usually a one-time thing (as long as nothing changes)
• It doesn’t apply to rentals or second homes
