How it started!!!

In 1920s a father gifted his children 180 acres of land to farm in Annapolis Maryland. 2 of the children continued with the land eventually created Carr’s and Sparrow’s beaches along the Chesapeake Bay. Know affectionately as “the beach” it was home to thousands and thousands of black Americans to retreat to and relax at during segregation. The beach provided musical entertainment, Beauty pageants, church outings, carnival rides and swimming were amongst many added attractions thriving for 40 years. With integration many black businesses including the beaches met their demise with lack of support and went out of business.

How it’s going!!!

Fast forward to 2019.
A father gifted his daughter the opportunity to go to school to become a nail technician. His premise was to enable his daughter to have her own business as well as have a source of income while in college pursuing her degree. This way she could do nails around her school schedule and have a life skill to build upon after graduation. The father searched high and low for a nail technician school. Found many cosmetology schools that taught nails as a segment of their program but the father only wanted a nail course. He finds basically right in his own backyard. The daughter completes the course, takes state exam and becomes a licensed nail technician. She goes off to college and thrives. Next the father gives the same gift to another daughter. She passed her state exams last week and is now licensed and getting her business up and running.

So the legacy of women entrepreneurs that the Carr sisters created continues today in the Goins sisters who are the great great granddaughters and great great nieces of the Carr Sisters.
