There are three things making it incredibly difficult for Utahns to buy a home:

What is the prediction for mortgage rates in the year 2022?

Forecasting that the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate (which is currently at 3%) will rise to 4% by the end of 2022. That rate jump, the group says, will help to push the median price of existing homes down 2.5% next year. That would represent a major reversal from the 19.5% jump in home prices we've seen over the past year.
A borrower who takes out a $400,000 30-year fixed mortgage at a 3% rate would owe a $1,686 monthly payment. At a 4% rate, that payment jumps to $1,910—or an additional $80,368 over 30 years.
On average for every $10,000 you go up or down in sales price will cost or reduce a borrower's payment by $50 a month. In this case, the difference in a 1% rate hike will lower buyers’ purchasing power by around $50,000 between now and the end of 2022.
