What are closing costs and who pays them?

Closing costs are the fees associated with a mortgage, usually about 2 to 5 percent of the loan.
Closing costs include an appraisal, credit check, and title search.

When people refinance a mortgage or obtain a home equity loan or home equity line of credit, closing costs have to be paid again.

Typically the customer pays the closing cost, BUT some closing cost-related items can be negotiated. So don't be afraid to haggle!
