A little behind-the-scenes look at volunteering with the Friends of the Metropolitan Library System at the Metro Library Sort Center! 📚❤️

Today we got to see what happens behind the scenes as donated and used books are sorted, organized and prepared for their next chapter. It’s definitely a lot more than just putting books on a shelf!

Fun fact: The Friends of the Metropolitan Library System have been supporting Metro Library since 1978, raising money through memberships and book sales and putting those funds back into our libraries.

And the impact is pretty incredible: the Friends have generated nearly $5 million for library grants, learning tools, programs and staff scholarships since their inception, and their annual book sale draws nearly 25,000 people. In FY2024 alone, book sales brought in more than $585,000.

Even more fun: those efforts help fund programs like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides a free book every month to eligible children ages 0–5 in Oklahoma County.

There’s something pretty satisfying about knowing that a few hours of sorting books today can help put more books—and more opportunities to read—in the hands of our community tomorrow. ❤️📖

Today calls for a shameless car selfie.✨

Five years ago today, I passed my Oklahoma Broker’s exam.

At the time, I had a simple idea of what I wanted to do with it: open a small, independent brokerage where I could work with different types of clients and real estate needs, and where how we worked with people mattered just as much as the transaction itself.

I had spent the first part of my real estate career at a large brokerage, and I learned a lot there. But I also learned something about myself: I like the freedom to do things my own way.

So MOD Realty started with a broker’s license, an idea, and a pretty good framework for the processes and procedures I wanted to implement.

I wanted the way we worked to reflect the values that still matter most to me: honesty, integrity, kindness, competence and thoroughness. Not particularly flashy words. But important ones.

Real estate can be complicated enough without making people feel like they’re just another transaction. I wanted clients to have someone who would tell them the truth, do the homework, pay attention to the details, ask questions when something didn’t make sense, and treat everyone involved with respect. That became the foundation for MOD.

What I didn’t anticipate was how much MOD would evolve. What I imagined as a small, independent brokerage eventually became a team. Along the way, I’ve had the good fortune of finding REALTORS who not only know how to practice real estate well, but who are genuinely good people and share many of the principles MOD was built upon.

One of the most rewarding parts of these five years has been watching something that started as an idea become its own little thing—with its own people, personality and way of doing business.

And since five years is apparently long enough to warrant some photographic evidence, swipe through for the broker exam; Pre-MOD: baby Realtor Sarah, my Rookie of the Year era, a pandemic-era mask; and post-MOD cool office spaces.

Five years later, MOD is still evolving. Still doing things a little differently. And still very much ours.

And I think that’s worth celebrating. 🥂💜💫🏡

This is one of those transactions that reminds me that real estate can be about so much more than buying and selling. Sometimes, it’s about creating the space for something meaningful to happen.

📚❤️ People LOVE their books!

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of volunteering with the Friends of the Metropolitan Library System at their Summer Book Sale at the State Fairgrounds — and WOW, what a turnout!

This was one of the most successful sales to date, with 9,011 unique visitors coming through the doors! And people came READY to shop. 😂 We saw carts, boxes, rolling bins, strollers and just about anything else you could use to haul home a serious stack of books.

There’s something pretty special about seeing thousands of people come together over the simple joy of finding a great book. And even better, the Friends of the Library use the proceeds from these sales to support our local library system and the community it serves.

I’m so grateful to have been part of the incredible team of volunteers who made this event possible. ❤️
