Happy Pride Month!

The vision that guides our work every day is an Oklahoma City where everyone belongs, everyone is housed, and any experience of homelessness is rare, brief, and met with compassion.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and reaffirm our belief that everyone deserves a place to call home.

Congratulations, Sarah!

When Sarah first came to the Homeless Alliance, she arrived with two young children and nowhere else to turn.

She was fleeing domestic violence, navigating homelessness, and caring for her children, one of whom who had significant medical needs. Sarah's daughter, Allison, was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate and recently underwent her 25th surgery.

“All I had were my kids, my faith, and the clothes on my back,” she said. “The Homeless Alliance was a blessing.”

For years, Sarah faced many more challenges, including her own health issues. Through it all, she says one thing made the biggest difference: knowing she wasn’t alone.

“I don’t really have any family,” she says. “You guys have been there for me.”

Since connecting with case management, Sarah has moved into stable housing, welcomed her third child, and built a safer future for her family. Now, she’s preparing to “graduate” from the housing program that helped her get there, and she says she’s more self-sufficient than ever.

“Nobody turned their backs or ran away when it got hard,” she says. “Knowing that I could call my case manager made me feel supported and gave me hope.”

Today, Sarah encourages others who are experiencing homelessness and domestic violence and connecting them to resources whenever she can.

“A lot of people don’t know how to get help, but nobody deserves to be stuck,” she says. “I tell them, ‘If I can do it, you can do it too.’”

Stories like Sarah's are possible because of a community of supporters like you that believes everyone deserves stability, safety, and a place to call home. Thank you for your support!

Thank you so much to City Care and all the partners, volunteers and staff that helped make our recent resource fair a success!

Throughout the day, we heard a lot of gratitude from people who were able to access services like showers and laundry, haircuts, clothing, meals, healthcare resources, benefits navigation, and more — all in one place! We even had same-day healthcare services, like health screenings, wound care, and skin checks, which are particularly important for people getting a lot of sun exposure.

Events like this are a reminder of how impactful collaboration can be. When we all work together, we're able to remove barriers and connect our neighbors with resources that support health, dignity, and stability. We're proud that our WestTown Resource Campus can be a place where these partnerships and connections happen.

Save the Date! In two weeks, we’ll be hosting our next Fresh stART show at our WestTown Resource Center.

Our lobby will transform into a gallery featuring creative, thoughtful, and one-of-a-kind artwork made by Day Shelter guests right here on our campus. Every piece is available for purchase, and artists receive proceeds from the sale of their work. When you buy a piece of art, you’re putting money directly in their pockets while helping build confidence.

Our Fresh start program happens twice a week at our Day Shelter. It's an open-studio art program designed to provide people experiencing and transitioning out of homelessness with a supportive environment for self-expression.

You can support Fresh stART by purchasing art at our June 4 show or by donating art supplies: https://a.co/0d4sTIKd

Thanks to Aetna Better Health of Oklahoma for donating hygiene kits for our clients!

Our outreach team and Day Shelter staff have already passed out many of these kits to clients like Nika. By meeting basic needs first, we can help folks move out of crisis mode and towards stability.

Community partnerships play an important role in helping us serve our neighbors, and we’re grateful to Aetna Better Health of Oklahoma for investing in our mission.

Summer is nearly here, and the temps are already warming up!

As we prepare for a hot Oklahoma summer, we want to make sure our clients have access to the supplies they need to stay cool and safe. Our Day Shelter is open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. It's safe place to get out of the heat, take a shower, get food and water, and receive other supplies to beat the heat.

On average, we see about 320 people each day, so we could use your help with stocking up! Please consider donating items on this list or hosting a donation drive with your office, family, friends, or faith community. We also have an Amazon Wishlist where you can shop for items and have them directly shipped to us. Monetary donations are also welcome and can be made online. That allow us to purchase the items we need at a lower cost than the general public.

Visit homelessalliance.org/donate-items for more information on how to make donations. Thank you for helping us keep our neighbors safe!

1,867 people were experiencing homelessness during this year’s Point in Time Count on Jan. 23. Results from the 2026 PIT Count were shared by Key to Home OKC on May 7 during the city’s State of Homelessness event. The data is incredibly useful, but we encourage you to keep in mind that each number represents a human being with hobbies, ambitions, friends, and families. Homelessness is an experience, not an identity.

The PIT Count is an annual, one-day census of people experiencing homelessness. It’s meant to represent just a snapshot of the scope of homelessness in our community. This count helps our community gather vital data about homelessness in OKC to identify trends and gaps in services, and it helps the city receive and disburse federal funding for various homelessness programs.

Thefull report can be found at okc.gov/Government/Administration/Key-to-Home-Partnership/Learn-More/Reports/Point-In-Time.

Stay tuned for the PIT Count issue of the Curbside Chronicle for more in-depth reporting and to meet some of the individuals who make up the 1,867 figure.

Homeless Alliance exists to open doors to hope, housing, and stability for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. We envision an Oklahoma City where everyone belongs, everyone is housed, and any experience of homelessness is rare, brief, and met with compassion.
