Oklahoma Land Title Association

Oklahoma Land Title Association OLTA is a statewide trade association representing the title insurance and abstracting industry in Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Land Title Association was organized in Oklahoma City, July 9, 1907. The name of the association at that time was the Oklahoma Abstracters Association. It was originally started as a meeting of the Oklahoma and the Indian Territory abstracters, which combined to form one organization. The Oklahoma Abstracters Association met 30 days prior to the American Association of Title Men, whic

h was organized in Chicago on August 9, 1907, so while we now refer to the American Land Title Association as our parent organization, the Oklahoma Land Title Association is older than the parent association. On July 15, 1907, the association changed its name to the Oklahoma Association of Title Men and their objective was "The purpose of the Oklahoma Association of Title Men shall be the regulation and control of the business of making abstracts and examining titles, so as to best serve and further the interests of those engaged therein and to promote the acquaintance, mutual advantage, and general welfare of its members; to make the examination of titles and preparations of abstracts of title more uniform and perfect and better understood by the public; to advance the common interest of its members and the general public in harmony with their respective rights, interests, and duties". The current name of the association was formally changed just before the May 1964 Annual Convention, and the association continues to grow, and has direct ties to the communities, legislature, and remains strong.

Jim Cichon is the 2024 Bill Gill Award Winner!! Congratulations Title Person of the Year, Jim Cichon with Southeastern Oklahoma Abstract & Title.
This award is presented each year to the nominee who best exemplifies the high ideals and dedication to the land title industry demonstrated by William “Bill” Gill. Mr. Gill was highly regarded in the industry, having served as OLTA President from 1933 through 1936, and as ALTA President in 1937-1938. Mr. Gill was instrumental in establishing the highest standards for the Oklahoma title professionals.

The John Cathey Presidential Heritage Award was presented to ALTA President Don Kennedy.
Created in 2021, the John Cathey Presidential Heritage Award is presented to the American Land Title Association President. John was crucial to the continued development of the title industry in Oklahoma for many years, and a revered leader in our State. This is presented to the ALTA President with the greatest respect and admiration of John Cathey’s contributions to the land title industry.
