The Oklahoma Land Title Association was organized in Oklahoma City, July 9, 1907. The name of the association at that time was the Oklahoma Abstracters Association. It was originally started as a meeting of the Oklahoma and the Indian Territory abstracters, which combined to form one organization. The Oklahoma Abstracters Association met 30 days prior to the American Association of Title Men, which was organized in Chicago on August 9, 1907, so while we now refer to the American Land Title Association as our parent organization, the Oklahoma Land Title Association is older than the parent association. On July 15, 1907, the association changed its name to the Oklahoma Association of Title Men and their objective was "The purpose of the Oklahoma Association of Title Men shall be the regulation and control of the business of making abstracts and examining titles, so as to best serve and further the interests of those engaged therein and to promote the acquaintance, mutual advantage, and general welfare of its members; to make the examination of titles and preparations of abstracts of title more uniform and perfect and better understood by the public; to advance the common interest of its members and the general public in harmony with their respective rights, interests, and duties". The current name of the association was formally changed just before the May 1964 Annual Convention, and the association continues to grow, and has direct ties to the communities, legislature, and remains strong.
