Sometimes the most important part of my job isn't selling a home- it's helping carry the weight 💪
This story started with a simple phone call.
I had seen a maintenance-provided villa in St. James Court listed For Sale By Owner on Zillow. Having recently toured several homes in the neighborhood with another client, I had become familiar with the community and knew it was a wonderful place to call home.
I wasn't calling to ask for the listing.
I called to introduce myself, share a few ideas that might help them attract buyers, and simply offer myself as a resource if they ever had questions.
During our conversation, I learned the home belonged to her father, and she was serving as his power of attorney. She was working full-time while also helping her mother-in-law build a new home and coordinating another move at the same time.
It was a lot.
I remember telling her how impressed I was because managing one move is stressful enough- let alone two while balancing work and family.
Before we hung up, I simply said,
"If you have questions, don't hesitate to call me. I'm happy to help."
A few days later... My phone rang.
They had decided it was time to bring in a professional.
The work had become too much.
That meeting happened to fall on a day I'll never forget- it was my daughter's sixth birthday.
I knew there were two other agents interviewing before me, and I also knew I wanted to be fully present for both my family and this family. So I was honest.
"I'd love to come by, but I do need to leave by 5:00 to make it to my daughter's birthday party."
As I drove over, I knew that I needed to earn this opportunity- I owed it to my daughter not to waste that precious time.
This home was one I knew well.
I had recently toured others in the neighborhood, understood the amenities, knew what buyers were looking for, and even had insight from people who lived there.
I walked into that appointment prepared- not just with marketing materials, but with local knowledge that could help position their home for success.
Together, we created a plan. We prepared the home.
We staged it. Captured professional photography.
Launched a strategic marketing campaign across Kansas City….
Hosted an open house the next day at 1pm. That’s right, after my daughter’s birthday I went back to prep the home for an open house the next day. Called in a favor to my favorite photographers, and were able to also get pictures in the next afternoon.
And before long...
We received a strong offer, allowing this family to move forward with confidence and begin the next chapter of bringing Dad closer to the people who love him most.
Moments like these remind me that real estate is rarely just about the house.
It's about families.
It's about transitions.
It's about easing the burden during seasons that can feel overwhelming.
I'm incredibly grateful this family trusted me to walk alongside them, and even more grateful that I could help make what once felt overwhelming become a successful new beginning.
If you're thinking about making a move- or simply don't know where to start- I'd be honored to help carry the weight and guide you through the next chapter.
