Good morning everyone, it would appear that Old Man Winter likes the Hudson Valley this year. After a reprieve in the snow for a few weeks, he's come back, and is extra cranky!
We wanted to give an update about the storm Sunday into Monday.
-First off, we will be out clearing snow, so no need to verify if we're coming.
-Second (and very important), unlike the other storms we have had this season, there is zero frost in the first few inches of any gravel surfaces, and as you may have noticed for the last few days, everything is soft and muddy. This means no matter how careful we are, there will be some stone re-arranged. We have shoes on our plows, but they will not work as well as they usually would due to the extra soft driveways. Again, we will be as careful as we possibly can be, but with this storm it is bound to happen.
-Third, Our trucks are all set up with plows and sanders, and we have spares standing by to make sure any breakdown does not negatively effect our customers. Please keep in mind this is a long duration event of 30 or so hours. Also, please be mindful of complaints against the town, county or state as they will be hard at work getting roads cleared, they are not purposefully ignoring your road, and they are humans and need sleep just like the rest of us.
Finally a few housekeeping items:
1: We use the exact same weather aps that you have on your phone, so calling or texting us asking "when is it going to stop?" or "How much are we going to get" really does not help any of us. In fact the chances are high that it interrupts the little bit of pre storm rest we are trying to sneak in. We also use Hudson Valley Weather and National Weather Service, either of those put the exact same information into your hands as we have in ours. **As a reference point**: The storm on the 25th & 26th of January Tim handled over 130 phone calls and 140+ text chains (resulting in over 1200 text messages back and forth) in a 48 hour period, all while trying to efficiently and effectively clean up the snow. As you may imagine, that took an enormous amount of time away from actual work.
2: We will be actively plowing from about 2pm Sunday until the storm has ended and the last property is cleaned up. There is a good possibility that we will make a couple trips through your property just to keep the main parts of your driveway open for emergency access.
3: The storm is not supposed to end until Monday around noon, that means the actual "cleanup phase" will not actively start until late Monday afternoon. We will do all non essential shoveling and cleanup starting at some point on Tuesday.
4: Please don't have your cars or garbage cans blocking parts of the driveway as that negatively affects our cleanup abilities, and negatively impacts our timing to get your neighbors cleaned out as well.
5: As you may have noticed, we are definitely running out of places to put snow. We will do the very best we can to not block anything, but at this point we are severely limited on areas to push the piles.
Finally, try to enjoy this storm, spend some time outside enjoying the peace, quiet and beauty fresh snow brings, or maybe spend some time by the fire with your favorite book and have a cup of coffee, tea or Hot cocoa for me! As always, thank you for trusting us with your property, and we will do our utmost to get everyone cleared and dug out in a timely fashion.
