The Richland County Sheriff's Office organizes this program yearly to help families in need of assistance at Christmas time.

Children in PreK to 5th grade are eligible to participate. One application per family, please.

Families that were selected to Shop with a Hometown Hero in 2025 will not be eligible for this 2026 event.

Applications will close on October 27, 2026.

Our community is showing up for Olney’s white squirrels!

As we celebrate White Squirrel Month, we are excited to share some wonderful examples of support for our efforts to protect and preserve this special part of Olney.

A local citizen has generously offered to donate a tree to support white squirrel habitat! And we are incredibly grateful to share that an anonymous donor has contributed $21,000 toward Olney’s white squirrel preservation efforts!

We are truly thankful for this tremendous show of support. These contributions will help us continue looking at meaningful ways to protect white squirrel habitat and support the long-term health of our unique population.

But support doesn’t have to come in the form of a donation! We have also been receiving valuable sighting data through the Olney White Squirrel Watch!, and we want to give a BIG thank-you to everyone who has already taken the time to report what they are seeing.

We currently have a lovely two-bedroom townhouse available for qualified applicants. Please come by the office to pick up an application—there is a box outside, or you may come in during office hours. Our community is located in a very quiet cul-de-sac it features a pond and a playground for children.
