As we enter the autumn season, there are plenty of fun things to do around Washington State during the month of October, arguably one of our most beautiful months. Here are a few suggestions which may not be found in my favorite local source - Thurston Talk:

Visit a pumpkin patch: October is the perfect time to go pumpkin picking! Check out places like Carpinito Brothers Pumpkin Patch or Bob's Corn and Pumpkin Farm, Rutledge Farms, Schilter Family Farms, or Hunter's Farms for a fun day out with friends or family.
Attend a fall festival: Many towns and cities in Washington host fall festivals during October. Look for events like the Issaquah Salmon Days Festival, the Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Ridgefield, or the Skagit Valley Festival of Family Farms or Oktoberfest in Leavenworth.
Take a scenic drive: Washington's fall foliage is stunning, and October is the perfect time to take a scenic drive. Some popular routes include the Cascade Loop, the Olympic Peninsula Loop, and the Mount Baker Scenic Byway.
Go on a hike: The cooler weather makes hiking more enjoyable, and Washington has no shortage of beautiful trails to explore. Some popular fall hikes include the Maple Pass Loop in the North Cascades, Rattlesnake Ledge near North Bend, and the Franklin Falls Trail near Snoqualmie Pass. You could also visit Staircase State Park and walk the loop along the river, or the Woodard Bay trail.
Visit a haunted house: If you're in the mood for a spooky thrill, check out one of Washington's haunted houses. Some popular options include the Georgetown Morgue in Seattle, the Nile Nightmares Haunted House in Mountlake Terrace, and the Madd Hatter's Haunt in Yakima.
