I’ve helped people buy and build homes for years, but building our own has placed me on the other side of so many conversations I’ve guided clients through - and given me a fresh perspective on the process.
When you walk through a home, it’s easy to notice the kitchen, countertops, lighting and pretty finishes.
But when it’s YOUR home, you think about everything else, too.
Where will the outlets go?
Where will the vacuum live?
Do we actually need this much square footage?
Will I still care about this upgrade in five years?
And which decisions will be much harder - or more expensive - to change later?
I already knew how much these details mattered. Experiencing the excitement, budgeting, second-guessing and approximately one million tiny decisions myself has simply made me feel their importance in a different way.
More than anything, it has reinforced how valuable it is to have someone in your corner who knows which questions to ask - especially the ones you would never know to think of yourself.
It hasn’t changed how seriously I take that responsibility. It has sharpened the way I approach it, and I know I’ll carry that perspective into every build I help with moving forward. 🤍
