Ok folks! Here we go! Episode 4 of
Crazy Things We Have Experienced...
The 16-Year-Old Birthday Party
Another night at The Ten while we were living there…
Our girls’ BFF was spending the night, and we had an Airbnb booking that I was already questioning.
So instead of sending the check-in instructions, I met the guests at the property.
It was a mom, her mom, and her 16-year-old son.
What could possibly go wrong? 😂
Pretty quickly, I noticed quite a few teenagers around the property.
I went down and asked to speak to Mom.
“She went to get pizza. It’s her son’s birthday.”
Okayyyyy.
I told them that if any more people showed up, we would cancel the reservation.
I tried calling and texting Mom and quickly realized I most likely had the number to a burner phone—the number she had used to book through VRBO.
Meanwhile, my girls had become Airbnb Neighborhood Watch. 😂
They were sitting on our balcony watching for kids to arrive.
Mike and I decided to walk the dogs so we could inconspicuously investigate.
The townhome was QUIET.
Dark.
Curtains drawn.
Almost all the lights off.
Then we noticed someone standing on the balcony dressed in dark clothes.
As we walked by, the sliding door opened and we heard:
“They’re walking their dogs.”
THEY HAD A LOOKOUT. 😂😂😂
We went home and watched as cars started pulling up one at a time.
One teenager would get out.
Car would leave.
Another car.
Another teenager.
Uber?
Maybe.
But some of these were DEFINITELY parents dropping their children off.
Are you kidding me?!
Mike said:
“Well… they’re being quiet. It’s probably harmless. We used to go to parties in high school.”
And THAT was exactly the wrong thing to say.
Because suddenly I remembered the parties I went to in high school.
Absolutely fu***ng not. 😂
I marched down and knocked.
Nobody answered.
So I unlocked the door.
Someone yelled:
“SHE OPENED THE DOOR!”
Yep.
She sure did.
I own the door. I have a key. 😂
I told everyone the party was over and they needed to leave immediately.
And suddenly teenagers started pouring out of EVERYWHERE.
Front door.
Back door.
Garage.
There were at least 40 kids in there.
Most of them took off running, panicking because apparently their parents thought they were somewhere completely different.
I asked who the adult in charge was.
The girl who had answered the door earlier stepped forward.
Apparently Mom had left HER in charge because she was “an adult.”
This girl looked like she had turned 18 yesterday. 😂
Once everyone left, Mike and I went inside expecting the worst.
Surprisingly, there wasn't much alcohol. Just a few little shooters.
Birthday Boy, however, was WASTED.
It smelled like w**d.
And then we started opening closets.
Chip bags.
Cheez-Its.
Oreos.
Snack wrappers EVERYWHERE.
We about died laughing.
It looked like someone had given a bunch of little kids w**d and then turned them loose in a pantry. 😂
We cleaned up the trash, locked the house and went back home.
And my girls?
They thought the entire thing was AMAZING.
Their takeaway from watching their mother bust up a secret 40-person teenage Airbnb party?
“Airbnb hosting is FUN.”
And…
“Mom, you’re a badass.”
😂😂😂
Not exactly the lesson I intended to teach that evening.
But I'll take it.
Just another completely normal night at The Ten.
